Visa-Free Entry

Citizens from several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Russia, and many ASEAN nations, can enter Vietnam without a visa for a short stay. The visa-free entry allows travelers to stay in Vietnam for up to 15 days or 30 days, depending on their nationality, when arriving by air or land.

Important Notes:

  • The visa-free period cannot be extended. Visitors must leave Vietnam before the visa-free duration expires.

  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your entry date.

 

Tourist Visa

For those planning to stay longer, Vietnam offers a Tourist Visa, which can be applied for before your trip.

Maximum Stay Duration:

  • Initial Period: The Tourist Visa typically allows a stay of up to 30 days.

  • Extension: The Tourist Visa can be extended once, allowing a total stay of up to 60 days.

 

Procedure for Tourist Visa Extension:

  1. Visit Local Immigration Office: Locate the nearest immigration office in Vietnam.

  2. Fill Out Application: Complete the required forms for your specific visa extension.

  3. Provide Documents: Submit your passport, application form, and any additional required documents (e.g., proof of accommodation, proof of onward travel).

  4. Pay Fees: Pay the applicable fees for the visa extension.

  5. Wait for Processing: Processing times can vary, so plan accordingly and apply well before your current visa expires.

  • Proof of Onward Travel:

  • Travelers are required to show evidence of leaving Vietnam before their visa-free or visa period expires. This can include a return flight ticket or a ticket for onward travel to another destination. Spot checks may be conducted by immigration officers.

  • Financial Proof:

  • Visitors may need to show proof of adequate finances for their stay. This can include having at least $1,500 or the equivalent in another currency per person.

  • Important Notes:

  • Overstaying: Overstaying your visa-free or visa period can result in fines, detention, deportation, and bans on re-entry. Ensure you leave the country or extend your visa before it expires.

  • Customs Regulations: Vietnam has strict rules regarding goods brought into and out of the country, including limits on the importation of alcohol, tobacco, and other restricted items. Declare any items that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty to avoid penalties.
